David Collins, Galway Senior Intercounty Hurler:
“After suffering a career-threatening injury to my ankle, and 13 months of rehab, cycling was my saviour. With no heavy impact on any joints it was the best form of rehab, building up calf and leg strength to what they were before. Having 20% ankle movement, cycling eventually got it back to 50% and from there it was back to the field.
Since then, I love my bike and what it has done for me. Triathlons are a favourite sport of mine now, and the bike part is my strongest area due to the hours I spent on it.
Cycling will remain a permanent part of my life, and anybody of any age can do it. It’s all about getting back on the bike, as the old saying goes.”
